Sealed Source Leak Testing
Occupational Services, (OSI) is licensed by the State of California Inc. to provide sealed source leak testing services.
Radioactivity is often encapsulated in small stainless-steel capsules. The capsules are organized and installed in a variety of devices used for industrial and medical applications.
- Cs-137 and Am-241 sources are used in soil moisture/density gauges,
- Co-60 sources are used in teletherapy equipment for cancer treatment,
- Co-60 sources are used Gamma Knife Facilities used for treatment of brain tumors and bleeding arteries,
- I-125 “seeds” are implanted in prostate tissue to treat cancer,
- Cs-137 sources are used in irradiators for biological research and sterilization of human implant devices,
- Ni-63 sources are used in Electron Capture Detectors used in Gas Chromatographs,
- Cs-137 and Co-60 sources are used in well logging devices in the oil industry,
- Cs-137 sources are used in radiation detector calibration devices,
- Sr-90 sources are used in fill-level detectors in bottling facilities,
- Pm-147 sources are used in thickness gauges in paper manufacturing facilities.
OSI operates an ISO 17025 Accredited counting room with Liquid Scintillation Counters, Gamma Counters, Alpha Counters and a Multichannel Analyzer. We follow a rigorous Quality Control program for our Radioactive Counting systems, that was prepared by H. E. Kolde for the United States Department of Health and Human Service.
