Quantitative and Qualitative Fit Testing
May 12, 2015
Fit testing is an integral part of any respiratory protection program. Performing a fit test prior to the use of a respirator is required by Cal/OSHA Standard 5144 – Respiratory Protection. The process of conducting a fit test not only evaluates the user’s ability to correctly don a respirator, but it also verifies the proper fit of the respirator as the size of the respirator varies by manufacturer. Qualitative or quantitative fit tests can be performed.
Qualitative fit tests (QLFT):
- Bitrex
- Irritant Smoke
- Saccharin
Quantitative Fit Testing (QNFT):
- Portacount
Many respirators can be tested including:
- Full-face masks
- Half-face masks
- Dust masks (N95, P100, N100)
- Supplied air respirators
